Rescue search ends after power plant explosion
Posted
Officials say they now believe everyone has been accounted for after a massive explosion ripped through a Connecticut power plant yesterday, killing five workers.
Search and rescue teams with dogs were called to the scene of the explosion at the natural gas plant amid fears that more workers might have been buried under the debris.
Contractors at the plant, which was still being built on the Connecticut River near Middletown, could not say how many of their employees were at the site at the time of the blast.
But after an exhaustive search the local mayor says everyone is now accounted for.
Five workers died in the accident and the local hospital says another 26 people were injured, two seriously.
State and federal investigations into the cause of the explosion will be launched this week.
