Former premier files report on Labor NT election performance

Posted November 15, 2008 11:49:00

A report has been completed into the Labor Party's poor showing at this year's Northern Territory election.

In an enormous voter backlash, Labor lost six seats in the August poll, very nearly handing government to the CLP.

Labor now clings to government with a one seat majority.

The Former Tasmanian premier Michael Field was called in to find out what went wrong.

He has just wrapped up his three-month probe which included interviews with senior party officials, members and defeated candidates.

The ABC understands the report examines broad structural and policy issues.

The decision to make the Inpex gas plant the centrepiece of Labor's campaign was only one of 50 issues addressed.

The ABC also understands elements of the report are likely to be made public late next week.
