South Australian paralympians have been welcomed home at a civic reception at Adelaide Town Hall.

The 14 sporting heroes were joined by family, friends and fans, who waved Australian flags and cheered.

The winner of five gold medals, swimmer Matt Cowdrey, drew screams and loud applause as he waved from the stage.

Veteran paralympic shooter Libby Kosmala advised anyone thinking about the 2012 London games to give it a go.

SA Premier Mike Rann and Adelaide Lord Mayor Michael Harbison presented each paralympian with a gift.

Then the athletes mingled with the crowd and signed autographs.
